Equal Voice

Equal Voice is a Citizen Advocacy project. We are a registered charity and we support citizen advocacy partnerships between vulnerable adults and ordinary members of the central Fife communities.

Who do we work with?

Working within the new eligibility criteria for adults as agreed in the Fife Advocacy Strategy, and throughout central Fife, we work with:

People in Fife, aged 16 or above, who are affected by disability, chronic illness, dementia or mental disorder (including mental illness, learning disability or personality disorder) and are unable to safeguard their own well-being, rights, care or other interests will be eligible to receive independent advocacy services.

What do we do?

Citizen Advocates develop a voluntary long-term, one-to-one partnership with a vulnerable person and who may have difficulty being listened to or has difficulty speaking up for themselves.  We believe ordinary people can make a positive difference in the life of someone vulnerable.

Our Advocates give their time and commitment to their partner freely, and may be the only unpaid person in their life.

How does it help?

A vulnerable person can benefit from having an advocate who: listens and talks things over; helps to get information; goes with them to meetings; helps the person to speak up for themselves; helps them to think about their future and represents their right to an ordinary life.

A Citizen Advocate voluntarily represents and protects the rights and interests of vulnerable people. They can help them face challenges and encourage them to participate in their communities throughout Central Fife.
